As we make the long, flat slog through South Dakota on our way back to Canada, you may ask yourself if we could have taken a more scenic route. Well, Mrs T has never seen Mt Rushmore and being a favorite stop on my many motorcycle treks I had to treat her to this uber American landmark. Let me state this for the record… there is no room for another face. There, I said it. [Editor’s note: NO ROOM]

Naturally, we had to try for the dorky tourist photo, second only to doing odd things with the leaning tower of Pisa.

You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose… well, you know the rest. We were unable to pick a president’s nose. She is standing on the grand walkway to the viewing area. Does stir up feelings, despite current events.
Next on to what is one of my favorite endeavors. All done without government money, it is truly a labor of love. Crazy Horse monument is still underway after decades of work, now being done by the next generation.

Last time I was here, in 2012, the face was just complete. Good to see the progress. There is a terrific Native American museum on the site that is a must see.
Now our journey takes us past a spot that Mrs. T is still wondering why. The famous, at least to regular riders through the Black Hills, Wall Drugs. For hundreds of miles the billboards proclaim it is a must see (in all honesty, they put them up themselves, so…) and as anyone knows, free cold water at Wall Drugs!

Getting back on the trail to our next destination, we would pass through some back roads which were beautiful but challenging.
It seems everywhere in South Dakota there is some sort of monumental rock relocation going on.

Nuf said. We look forward to another stretch of one night stands in sketchy hotels despite the national brand they may be showing. Let’s just say that because it is a Best Western does not mean the word best is taken seriously!
