A Storm, No Tech, and a Birthday Surprise…

Not many pictures for your consideration but this bench. Not certain who this particular Von is, but it was worth sending to my one and only son-in-law Von. I will just say I could not ask for a better partner for my only daughter and father to my two wonderful granddaughters.

OK, what can I say about San Antonio? There are plenty of pictures in the former blog available here as PDF copies, including our pictures from 2020. Now one might ask one’s self who the hell traveled anywhere in 2020. Well we did and for 14 months. Nothing like a nice pandemic on the road. Traveling to new places and keeping to ourselves! It was a blast. Why didn’t we go back to Capitola? Well we had leased out our home and so had no place to return! But enough of that.

We did manage to take a quick walk to the river, which was close to where we stayed but barely made it back before the sky opened up. Never been so happy with the accuracy of the weather app. Two pm on the dot, thunder, lightning, torrential rain. Talk about pigeon walking.

Our place was close to the end of the River Walk so, convenient. Some things not mentioned in the home exchange description… no TV and no WiFi. I know, I know, first world problems, but mention it in the description please. Yes, there were work arounds but I am always amazed at how dependent we are on network availability. And while I am at it, speaking of dependence on tech, without a GPS Mrs. T and I would be helplessly wandering. You will know when those satellites fall from the sky, we will be in parts unknown looking for a new home and probably work.

There will be an entire post dedicated to our shocking ability to get lost. “All who wander are not lost.” NOT TRUE.

In the words of Deb, you know the famous sister-in-law, proprietor of the adult day care, “How do you two get ANYWHERE?”

We did stumble upon a large artist’s collective with many galleries as well as a couple of fantastic antique shops. My darling wife purchased a birthday gift for me, which I will show in the New Orleans post. She made me promise to be surprised in several weeks when she gave it to me… no problem. I am generally in space so that detail can be deleted easily.

Here is a picture that clearly depicts the curse of being an electrical contractor for more than 50 years…

This drove me crazy over the three days here. And yes, I fixed it.

Now we will have a brief discussion on the insanity of anti Tesla activity…

Now bare in mind, we have a license plate frame that reads, “I love this car but hate Elon.”

This was a bit of detente. I felt the car we have is perfect for this trip and Mrs. T is convinced Elon is the antichrist.

Can we please stop this madness? First off, and I apologize for being slightly serious in a blog that is mostly my deranged irreverent ramblings, does anyone think you can hurt a trillionaire? If the car company goes completely out of business you have succeeded in putting thousands of people out of work. Elon? Still crazy, still obnoxious, and still impossibly rich. Well, you may say, let the thousands just get another job. Sort of like conservatives arguing against universal health care saying, “Well, just get a job with insurance.” Both statements show a disconnect with the real world. And by the way, despite my partner vowing never to set foot in a Chic-Fil-A because of the political bent of the owners, by all accounts it’s a pretty great sandwich! In closing on this subject, we have encountered no backlash from traveling in a Tesla, no it has not burst into flames, no we have plenty of places to charge, and yes, I still love the car and can we please stop doing this crazy shit of finding reasons to hate things just because the leadership of a company does not fall in lock step with our political beliefs.

Next stop, beautiful Lafayette and the trials and tribulations of this seemingly short jump.
