Yes friends, here we are in Texas. Amarillo to be exact and it is everything you might imagine. First stop? The Big Texan, home of the 72 OZ steak. If you can eat it as well as the various side dishes it come with within 60 minutes, you get it free! Now the downside is the medical bills incurred should you attempt this challenge. It was, as Mrs. T put it, like walking into Texas Disneyland! There were games of chance and a shooting gallery (yes, that is not a typo). Not sure if there was a mechanical bull but I have to believe it was somewhere. Below is a picture of the dining room. Easily holding 500 hungry Texans as well as unsuspecting tourists who just had to stop at this landmark.

We decided to stay in the Big Texan Motel right next door. Believe me, the pictures do not do it justice. Case in point? There is a fly swatter hanging in each room.

Needless to say Mrs. T, was way overloaded with bar sounds, shooting gallery noises, and general carrying on by the, easily, 100+ people waiting for tables to stay and eat. So, it was brisket sandwiches to go.

As some may know, Mrs. T is all about healthy eating but… when we arrive in Texas she becomes the brisket queen! More about this later when we get to talk about a landmark you will find in no books, no travel magazines, and hardly ever in the news… the eponymous BUCK’EES.
Last, let me call your attention to the list at the top of this post. It is none other than a memorial to the folks to challenged the 72 Oz and won!
